ERCP is used for diagnosis and palliation of pancreatic and biliary tract malignancies. Metal and plastic biliary stents are placed to relieve obstructive jaundice. Brush cytology and intraductal biopsy provide tissue diagnosis. Endoscopic sphincterotomy and stone extraction are performed for benign biliary disease complicating malignancy.
